Question

What is the quality of talent in South Africa really like?

For any role that can be done remotely, a South African professional is a one-to-one comparison with the UK equivalent. English is a first language, the business culture is closer to the UK than to any other offshore market, and many of the people we place already work for international clients at digital agencies. The cost difference comes from local cost of living, not from a lower standard of work.

The market has changed

South Africa has become a genuine international hub for remote professional work. That is recent in scale but not in character: the professional culture was already European in outlook, and of the offshore markets a UK business might consider, it is the closest to home.

The people we put forward are frequently the same people who would otherwise emigrate to the UK and integrate into a UK team without friction. Same language, effectively the same working day, and a working culture that needs no translation.

Where they come from

Many of the candidates we place come out of digital agencies that already serve international clients and perform well doing it. They are not learning how to work with a UK business on your time; they have been doing it.

The honest version

This holds across role types rather than being true of one speciality and oversold elsewhere. If the job can be done remotely, the odds of a successful placement with a South African professional are the same as with a British one.

What it does not mean is that cheap equals good. The economics work because living costs differ, not because you are buying a lesser version of the role. If you are shopping purely on price, this is the wrong service, and we would rather say so early.
