Roles we place

Hire a Software Engineer in South Africa

You can hire a full-time software engineer in South Africa for around 40% less than the true cost of a UK hire. They work your hours in your codebase, join your stand-ups live, and contract with Kadraa rather than with you, so no employment obligations reach your business.

Also advertised as: Software Developer, Backend Developer, Full-Stack Engineer, Application Developer, Senior Software Engineer.

What a Software Engineer actually does

  • Building and maintaining application software rather than websites: services, APIs, data pipelines, internal tooling and the product itself.
  • Participating properly in engineering process, which means code review, testing and CI rather than delivering code over a wall.
  • Owning production responsibility for what they ship, including the parts that page someone at an inconvenient hour.
  • Technical decisions with consequences measured in years, which is why the seniority you hire matters more here than in most roles.

What to look for when you interview

  • Ask about something that went badly wrong in production and what they changed afterwards. Engineers who have never broken anything have usually never owned anything.
  • Depth over breadth on the CV. A list of twenty technologies usually means a working knowledge of none of them.
  • Whether they can explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical person. In a small team this is not optional.

Why South Africa for this role

Engineering is the role where timezone matters most and is most often ignored. Code review, pairing, incident response and architectural argument are all synchronous activities; they degrade badly across an eight-hour gap. South Africa's one to two hour offset keeps all of it live. The country also has a genuine product engineering sector rather than only an outsourcing one, so candidates have often worked on software with users rather than only on client projects.

How hiring one works

We source and shortlist against your brief, you interview and choose, and typically it is around 21 days from brief to a signed contract with a start date. Your consultant contracts with Kadraa, not with you, and we run the contract, the payroll, the foreign transactions and any HR matter. You pay one monthly fee from a UK registered company.

If it ever stops working out, you give one month’s notice and we start finding a replacement the same day, with no time limit and no replacement fee. Pricing is indicative until we know the role.

The next 30 minutes

Bring a role. Leave with its price.

Tell us what the role would pay in the UK and we’ll give you an indicative monthly fee on the call. Typical time from brief to signed contract is 21 days. And if the model doesn’t fit what you need, we’ll say so on the call.

  • 30 minutes, with a founder
  • An indicative monthly figure for your role, on the call
  • No obligation, no follow-up sequence
